Buzzard’s Easter weekend

I’m very pleased to report that Buzzard’s show at ‘The Chestnut Tree’, Sherwood last night was received exceptionally well and the lads enjoyed getting back to playing again after Keith’s unfortunate wrist injury.

The Easter holiday weekend is looming and the lads have two shows booked for then. The first is at the ‘Coach & Horses’ in Draycott near Long Eaton next Friday the 2nd. April. This is going to quite a special show for Buzzard as my good Friend Paul Bednall is hoping to capture the band on video and get some audible recordings to go on the recently created Buzzard ‘MySpace’ site: http://www.myspace.com/buzzard_rock Thanks to Paul Bednall for all the work on producing a great site to compliment the main Buzzard site.

Please come down and give your support for Nottingham’s finest Rock & Blues band. Draycott can be reached quite easily and is situated on the main A6005 road between Long Eaton and Borrowash. If you fancy a drink or two, there is an excellent bus service, ‘The Indigo’ that runs between Derby & Nottingham passing through Draycott until around 11.30. See you there.

The second holiday weekend show is on the Saturday 3rd. April at ‘The Bridge Inn’, Bridge St. Cotmanhay, Ilkeston. It is a charity event named ‘Songs For Tina’ in aid of raising funds for Tina, a local stroke victim. The monies raised from the event will be used to send Tina on a much needed and long awaited holiday this year.

The event has been organised by Andy Richardson of Derby band ‘Mantis’ (formally ‘The Telephones’) who will also be kicking-off the proceedings around 4.15 in the afternoon. Also on the bill are a talented bunch of young lads who go by the name of ‘Remand to Vegas’. Following them is a another talented artist from Derby, Vannessa Vale of the band ‘Kumatage’ and of course our favourites Buzzard will hit the stage around 7.30.

Come and have great evening and see some brilliant bands.

*STOP PRESS* I’ve just been informed that ‘Mantis’ are also going to be joining Buzzard on the bill at the ‘Coach & Horses’, Draycott on Friday 2nd. April so please get down a little earlier. Jim’s lad Glen plays the drums for this band and they will be showcasing new songs along with earlier ‘Telephones’ classics.

Buzzard to play with Vince Eager

Great news for all you fans of Buzzard. Up on the site at the moment are two dates where there are a rare opportunities to see the guys play with a twist.

The first is a special occasion at the ‘Floral Pavilion’ in Wallasey, Liverpool where Nottingham’s favourite Rock & Blues maestros will be performing as ‘Rockola’, backing band to 60’s Rockabilly legend Vince Eager, (also a local lad). This one forms part of ‘The Billy Fury’ weekend, a celebration of what would have been the stars 70^th.Birthday. The main act will be Marty Wilde. Just click on the link in ‘Gig Dates’ for more detailed information.

The second date is also as ‘Rockola’ performing at the ‘Starfighter Rock ’n’ Roll Club’ in Norwich.

Both these dates are going to be equally as interesting for excellent performance and nostalgia combined.

Jim’s Brother-in-Law, Johnny Grace will also be appearing with the guys on rhythm guitar. Johnny is no stranger to the Vince Eager camp as he has had the privilege to play alongside Vince before.

Introducing Richard & Paul

Hello there friends and followers of Buzzard. Let me introduce myself, my name is Rich and it’s just a name not status, so if you see me at a Buzzard show, I won’t turn down a pint of real ale or a shot of Jack Daniels.

Seriously though, the band have kindly asked Paul Bednall, (resident photographer, videographer and general computer technical all-rounder) and myself to ‘brighten’ up the website for them as it has spent the best part of it’s 4 year life looking much the same.

Paul and I, over the next few months, will endeavour to keep the Buzzard site updated and gradually introduce some new features. We hope to have some brand new photos up on here very soon and some live video footage of the guys in ‘action’ to follow shortly after.

This page, I’m saving as a ‘blog’ to the Midlands favourite Rock & Blues band, so I’m counting this as my first official blog. On this page I hope to give a run-down of the gigs that I attend and also invite you the fans to review any Buzzard shows that you witness by simply sending in your write-up to the e-mail address on the this site.

I met Andy and Keith around 1981 when they were both playing in ‘Dawn Trader’ and followed the band around the East Midlands for a couple of years. I attended a fair number of the Sunday night shows at the ‘Hearty Goodfellow’ in Nottingham and fondly recall the ‘glory days’.

I went on to work for ‘Way Ahead’, which for a young 17 year old at the time was a dream come true and became the envy of all my ‘rocker’ mates in Derby and Nottingham. It was whilst working there that my boss Dave Brett and the late Radio Trent DJ, Graham Neale were managing ‘Dawn Trader’ so I got to see the guys play at bigger, further afield venues and supporting some big names of the time, ‘Krokus’, ‘Magnum’ and even a young ‘Def Leppard’. Sadly though, after the death of Graham Neale, ‘Trader’ fell apart. Andy and Keith had already left the band to form the highly acclaimed ‘ABK’, Andy, Boris & Keith, whom I saw once or twice at JC’s bar on Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham.

In 2007, my best friend from school, Paul kirkley formed ‘A Life of Living’ Band Management & Promotion and asked me to join him in the venture shortly after. We manage a band from Derby named ‘The Telephones’ and I soon discovered their drummer to be one Glen Price. Glen is the son of Buzzard‘s very own Jim Price. Jim kindly obliged to play sound man for quite a few of our events in 2009 and of course, when I eventually got to see Buzzard play last Summer, old friends became re-acquainted …the rest as they say, is history…….
